What is a Service Provider?
If you are a business or offer a service to the public you have duties under the Disability Discrimination Act. Anyone who provides a service to the public or a section of the public, or anyone who allows access to any place which members of the public are permitted to enter, is a service provider under the Act.
Examples of service providers are;
- Shops
- Hotels
- Banks
- Schools
- Building Societies
- Information Services
- Communication Services
- Public Buildings
- Recreational Facilities
- Employment Agencies
In short any profession, trade, business or educational facility that provide a service to the public have a legal obligation under the Act, with very few exemptions.
Examples of Access are;
- Access to goods, services and facilities
- Access to information
- Access to & use of communication
- Access to banking, loans, credit or finance
- Access to grants, public funding & advice
- Access to employment & training
- Access to any profession or trade
