Background

Trafford Domestic Abuse Services (TDAS) is a registered charity offering support to individuals and families living or working in the Trafford area who are suffering or who have suffered domestic abuse. We provide both intervention and prevention services and work in partnership with other voluntary organisations to support families across Greater Manchester.

 

 

Purpose of the role

To assist the course facilitator in helping to create a safe environment for women to learn, share their experiences and feelings. TDAS runs two courses for women who have experienced domestic abuse:

 

True Colours:

The True Colours Programme is a 6-week information and support programme built around the realities and effects of domestic abuse. This course is for women and is facilitated by women.  It is a safe space to share with others and learn more about the effects of domestic abuse. The programme is available to women who are living or working in Trafford, who want to learn more about domestic abuse and its effects.

 

Back to me:

The Back to Me Programme is a Personal Development course built around the realities and effects of domestic abuse.  It runs for one 3 hour session and has been a key step in moving on for a number of our service users.

 

Activities

  • Complementing the work undertaken by the Training Facilitator; supporting service users participating on the True Colours® and Back to Me® Programmes.

  • Setting up the training room prior to the start of each session.

  • Welcoming service users upon arrival.

  • Maintaining an accurate register of attendees.

  • Support service users’ emotional wellbeing during participation of the programmes.

  • Handing out and collating feedback sheets for each session.

  • Recording relevant data on a flip chart.

  • Providing feedback on session delivery, content and participation.

Experience/ Knowledge/ Qualifications

  • An awareness of domestic abuse and/or a willingness to learn more about its effects on victims, their families and the wider community.

  • Dealing empathetically with those who may be in emotional distress.

  • Positive commitment to Equality and Diversity.

Site

  • This role is to be conducted within the community in the Borough of Trafford.

  • TDAS main office address is: Gorse Hill Studios, Cavendish Road, Stretford, Manchester, M32 0PS. 

  • Please note that Rspace programmes are often held in alternative venues across Trafford in order to make the sessions more accessible to service users within Trafford.

 

Supervision

  • This role is subject to enhanced DBS disclosure checks;

  • Volunteers are responsible to the Volunteer Coordinator;

  • Volunteers are to ensure that all organisational policies and procedures are followed and adhered to appropriately;

  • Volunteers are expected to follow reporting procedures outlined by the Volunteer Coordinator and in line with Policy and Procedure; this applies to all concerns, incidents and anything relating to Adult and Child Protection/ Safeguarding.

  • Volunteers are expected to attend regular supervision meetings with the Volunteer Coordinator;

  • The health and safety of volunteers, staff and service users is paramount and it is essential that volunteers take accountability of this when undertaking this role.
