Sharan
Domestic Abuse Advisor
Accommodation Team
My name is Sharan , I have worked for TDAS for over 20 years and I have seen a lot of changes and growth over those years. I work as a Domestic Abuse Advisor and although I am based in the refuge all of the women I support are in our dispersed properties which means I move around and find this keeps things interesting. One of the most rewarding things is when I have supported a family and months or years after they have left the refuge they send me a lovely message letting me now how they are doing.

Karima
Diverse Communities Domestic Abuse Advisor
Accommodation Team
I joined the TDAS team in April 2020 and initially worked within the Children and Young People’s service. I completed my post-graduate studies in 2013 which focused specifically upon gender-based abuse amongst the female Arab-origin diaspora in the UK, which included a theoretical and fieldwork emphasis. I have since been employed in the voluntary/charity sector and have worked predominantly with vulnerable young people and children in various settings; BAME communities; refugees and women fleeing domestic abuse. I have extensive knowledge of working with BAME communities (BAME women in particular) and I am a fluent speaker of the Arabic language. Having a second language and extensive cultural knowledge of various communities enables me to approach my work in a culturally sensitive way and provide high quality culturally tailored support to victims of domestic abuse.

Gemma
CYP and Family support worker
Accommodation Team
Hi my name is Gemma.
My role with TDAS is CYP and family worker based in refuge.
Being a mum to my 3 children has brought challenges along the way but has given me the most rewarding experiences.
I have worked with children and families for the past 18 years in many roles including child minding, specialist 1-1 primary support and secondary school pastoral/behaviour support.
I firmly believe that ALL children deserve to live in a safe secure and caring environment – It is a true privilege to be a part of TDAS as I am able to help support families and children to begin to feel safe secure and cared for.
Those families who find themselves on our refuge doorstep have somehow found the strength to get themselves there. Supporting families and children to regain their strength and build on their future is my passion.
